Beer & Brew & Suds
Josh Quigley brews beers on-site at his restaurant, Quigley's Pint and Plate.

If you enjoy locally brewed and hand-crafted small batch beers, you’ll enjoy hoisting a refreshing pint at these spots.

Blackwater Brews

5180 U.S. 17 Bypass South

Swamp Fox Peddler’s Market

Murrells Inlet

651-9933.

This delightful haven is dazzling and comfortable. It’s the sort of place where you could happily spend a few hours drinking coffee, sipping a brew, nibbling fantastic organic dishes, checking out the art from local artists, using your computer (they have Wi-Fi) or settling in with a good read. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights there’s live entertainment. The menu includes American small-batch hand-crafted beers, organic fair-trade shade-grown coffees, smoothies, organic sandwiches and salads and Mighty Leaf teas.

Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery

Broadway at the Beach

Off U.S. 17 Bypass between 21st and 29th avenues North

Myrtle Beach

626-4677

www.tbonz.com

The hand-crafted brews at this microbrewery are bracing. But even if you don’t imbibe, it’s nice sitting in the beer garden while munching Cheesy Potato Skins or Cajun Crawfish Popcorn and engaging in people-watching. The view of Lake Broadway from the porch is also nice. The menu is extensive and varied, from pork chops to crab cakes.

Liberty Taproom

7651 U.S. 17 Business N. (Kings Highway)

Myrtle Beach

839-4677

www.tbonz.com

This is owned by the same company that has Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery, and it features the same wonderful microbrewed beers. It also has a beer garden and a varied menu, but the menu items are different. A few interesting items include Blue Cheese Potato Chips, Wild Mushroom Pizza, Asian Tuna Sandwich and Oyster Mushroom Medallions.

Quigley’s Pint and Plate

257 Willbrook Blvd.

In the Mingo shopping center

Pawleys Island

237-7010

The menu at brewmaster Josh Quigley’s new restaurant lists a lot of hearty and tasty food like you might expect at a respectable brew pub. Dishes include the Plowman’s Platter, which is an assortment of cheeses, meat chunks, a hard-boiled egg, cherry peppers, apple wedges, a fresh pretzel and ale mustard; soups of the days; salads; sandwiches; and meat-and-potatoes entrees. The Beerimisu dessert is made with lady fingers soaked in bourbon stout.
