Surfside Beach
The third-floor view from Latitude 22 is exhilarating yet serene.

Surfside Beach is known as “the family beach.”

But while Surfside Beach welcomes families, it also has a wide clean beach, a lack of big industry and civic dedication to keeping tight rein on development.

It’s a fun and relaxing town to live in or visit…and they have some great restaurants!

To learn more about Surfside Beach, visit www.surfsidebeach.org. To learn about where to eat there, keep reading.

Anthony’s Pizza and Pan Pasta

U.S. 17 Bypass at Glenns Bay Road

Surfside Beach

215-5444

Anthony’s Pizza & Pan Pasta is a well-liked neighborhood restaurant with a lot going on. Their pizza with its crunchy crust has been a hit since they opened several years ago, and their customized pan pasta is already legendary. Anthony’s new menu items include Lasagna, Cheese Ravioli, a family-size Stromboli, Turkey Club sandwich and a BLT; and new beers are Widmer and Bass. On Friday nights there’s an all-you-care-to-eat fish fry, and on Tuesdays starting at 7:30 p.m. they host Team Trivia. Diners can sit inside or outside and enjoy subs, salads, wings, calzones and bruschetta, or food can be ordered for take-out or delivery.

Bagels & More

Behind Legends in Concert

531 U.S. 17 Business South

Surfside Beach

238-2922

For breakfast you can have bagels with cream cheese, bagels with lox, Bagel Benedict and bagel sandwiches. They serve plain grits, cheese grits and home fries, pork rolls and a New Jersey Slider, which is a pork roll with egg and cheese. The kitchen staff will also whip you up an omelet like feta and tomato or one with jalapenos and salsa; or heat up the griddle for pancakes or French toast. The deli side of the business comes more into play for lunch, when you can get deli meat sandwiches hot or cold on fresh-baked bread, bagels, rolls or in wraps. They also have eggs salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, broccoli salad and potato salad, and hearty hot lunch entrees like Chicken Gyro, Philly Cheesesteak and Reubens.

Borgata

813 Surfside Drive

Surfside Beach

839-9595

The menu is simple and features the fresh-baked breads of Benjamin’s Bakery, which is only a half-block away from Borgata. Sandwiches include Shrimp Po’ Boy, Grouper Po’ Boy, Philly Steak, Chicken Philly, Big Blue (grilled chicken with Swiss and ham), Club Sandwich and more. You can get a Chicken Tender, Shrimp or Grouper Basket, Wings (mild, medium, hot, honey barbecue), Burgers and finger foods like Buffalo Fingers, Onion Rings and Fried Mushrooms. The doors open at 1 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and there are two full bars.

Bubba’s Fish Shack

16 South Ocean Blvd.

Surfside Beach

232-9798

www.bubbasfishshack.com

Bubba’s is a fun place for couples, large families or other groups. Great seafood and sandwiches are presented in a casual atmosphere.

Charleston Café

815 Surfside Drive

Surfside Beach

238-2200

Live piano music performed several nights per week is the backdrop for casual continental dining. You can’t miss it; the building is pink.

Crystalite Café

799 U.S. 17 Business

Surfside Beach

839-9080

Crystalite specializes in fantastic breakfasts and lunches, delicious pastries and excellent specialty coffees. Try the homemade cinnamon rolls, Honey Almond Chicken Salad or Mixed Berry Salad. Laptop users will enjoy the free Wi-Fi access.

Fat Jack’s Wings & Things

353 U.S. 17 Business N.

Surfside Beach

238-3355

I almost hate to give away the location of this fantastic locals’ hangout but feel it’s my duty to share where you can get the best wings on the planet. They’re cooked so the skin is crispy, the plump inside moist and juicy. Flavors are spectacular, from the sweet and tangy house version to garlic parmesan, Texas gold barbecue, jalapeno teriyaki, Cajun and extra-spicy kamikaze.

Jacob’s Java

810 Third Ave. S.

Surfside Beach

477-1100

www.benjaminsbakery.com

This café features excellent coffees, plus bagels, breads, rolls and sweets baked fresh daily in the adjacent wholesale bakery called Benjamin’s Bakery. It’s a cozy coffee house setting with couches, tables, free Wi-Fi access, computers and used books.

Latitude 22

11 N. Seaside Dr.

Surfside Beach

232-9796

www.latitude22bar.com

Latitude is a treat because of its third-story ocean view, the signature cocktails and an interesting Caribbean-inspired menu. Tuesday nights are shrimp nights, with a pound of shrimp served a variety of ways for $13.95. Latitude does not use any oils containing trans fats.

Nibils at Surfside Pier

11 S. Ocean Blvd.

Surfside Beach

238-5080

www.mrnibils.com

Early-morning beach walkers often end their exercise with a breakfast of a seafood omelet at Nibils. Lunches and dinners offer a wide variety, from sandwiches to steaks and a lot in between. Since it’s on a pier, the ocean and beach views in this casual family-run restaurant are memorable.

Stadium Club Sports Deli

317 U.S. 17 Business N

Surfside Beach

238-1754

The Stadium Club Sports Deli is a popular watering hole, but locals also go there for a variety of comfort foods. They sometimes have a wonderful special Beef and Cheddar Hot Sandwich, but it’s hard to choose between that and the juicy hand-patted Hamburger. You can order fries, pasta salad or potato salad with all sandwiches. Other menu favorites include the Chicken Philly, Prime Rib Philly and Filet Mignon Philly, along with many other hot grilled and cold sub sandwiches. Appetizers are typical bar finger food. On the way out after paying the bill, reach in the cookie jar and take a cookie of the day as a freebie! They encourage you!

Your Cup Runneth Over

Lorraine Plaza

U.S. 17 Business at 7th Avenue South

Surfside Beach

238-9366

YourCupRunnethOver.com

The menu includes specialty coffees, teas, smoothies, gourmet sandwiches and soups, and eclectic side dishes such as cucumbers and onions in vinaigrette, and crunchy carrot and raisin salad with pineapple chunks. An array of breads and baked sweets from Benjamin’s Bakery are available along with pastries from Master European Baker Petra Jerabek of Bake & Cake. The mom and daughter added a line of gourmet goodies such as candies and condiments, and they began creating customized gift baskets they deliver free locally, and will ship nationwide. They’re open 8 a.m. until close, Mondays through Saturdays.
