Socastee has a Myrtle Beach address, but it is an unincorporated community outside the city limits. Its total area is about 14 miles.
Boundaries are part water, with the Intracoastal Waterway and the Waccamaw River on the west; and part road, bumping up to U.S. 501 along Forestbrook Road, ending on the east side at U.S. 17 Bypass at S.C. 707 (also called Socastee Boulevard), and extending southeast toward Surfside Beach on S.C. 707 to the Socastee post office and down S.C. 544 toward Surfside Beach.
The heart of Socastee is the traffic light at the intersection of S.C. 707 and Dick Pond Road near the Socastee Swing Bridge.
The Socastee Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. It includes the Socastee Swing Bridge, a pecan grove and three nearby buildings: an 1881 home, a 1908 home and the Thomas B. Cooper Store built in 1905 that was also the site of an early Socastee post office.

Inside it’s roomy, clean and pleasant, and there’s a lot of friendly banter going on at the counter seats. There’s a true feeling of community, and if you live nearby chances are you’ll see someone you know. The menu is large and varied, from chicken livers to grilled tuna. There are daily specials and a weekend breakfast buffet for $5. Country Diner is open 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The menu is heavy on seafood, which can be fried or broiled. The seafood platters are popular, and there’s even a Driftwood Steam Platter for Two with grilled shrimp, boiled shrimp, scallops, flounder, deviled crab and crab legs. Seniors have special choices that cost $9, and lunchtime specials are $5 to $8. An Early Bird Special from 4 to 6 p.m. costs $8 to $9. There are all-you-care-to-eat specials Sundays through Thursdays, and if you bring in a church bulletin on Sundays you get an extra 10 percent off your meal.

The aged terra cotta tile floor was imported from Mexico, and arches, columns and a faux tile roof enclose a dining area with a fountain in the middle. The menu is extensive. Lunch entrees range from $5 for the Speedy Gonzales plate with one taco, one enchilada and rice or beans, to $9.99 for the 1/2 Fajita Texanas with shrimp, chicken and beef, or the 1/2 Shrimp Fajitas. For dinner many combination plates are available for $7 to $7.50. A few of the many dinner entrees are Crab Quesadilla, Diablo Shrimp, Seafood Chipotle, Burrito Macho, Mole Ranchero, Steak Jalisco and Green Enchiladas.

Owner Ramon Rangel used bright colors in his décor, and the effect is that of a casual, tropical café. The breakfast menu is brief, and each dish features eggs. They can come with Mexican sausage and ham, and all are accompanied by beans and tortillas. Lunch specials are served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the dinner menu expands on the lunch offerings with dishes such as Ceviche (fish and shrimp in a lime marinade), several Mexican-style steaks, Fajitas, combination plates and seafood like Fish Tacos and Camarones al Mojo de Ajo (shrimp sautéed in butter, garlic and spices and served with beans and tortillas.
