Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, Murrells Inlet – From Jan. 22-24, a Murrells Inlet restaurant hopes its reputation will be turned around when Chef Robert Irvine brings his production crew for “Restaurant: Impossible.”
George and Teresa Hayek have operated Old World Italian Restaurant at 3850 U.S. 17 Bypass in Murrells Inlet for 17 years, and their son, George Jr., joined the team after graduating from culinary school.
After an unfavorable review of Old World Italian was published at MyrtleBeachRestaurantNews.com in July 2012, the family decided to apply to be featured on the program “Restaurant: Impossible.” The show “…attempts to save America’s most desperate restaurants from impending failure in just two days with only $10,000.”
The turnaround begins on Jan. 22, with the grand re-opening taking place on Jan. 24, a source close to the family reports.
An Associate Producer for the Food Network's "Restaurant: Impossible" sent information on Jan. 17 about how to make reservations for Old World Italian's grand reopening:
“…we will be filming at Old World Italian Restaurant on Jan 23rd and the 24th. In 2 days and with only $10,000 Chef Robert Irvine and his team of designers will revamp the failing restaurant. At the end of our second day, we will re-open the restaurant for a Grand Re-Opening where we will open the doors to the public and film the service as part of our show!”
“We will have our Grand Re-opening on the evening of Thursday, January 24th and Old World Italian will be taking reservations for that evening starting at 7:00 pm. Interested parties can call (843) 357-3494 to make a reservation.”
