Heidi Vukov of Croissants is a restaurant-owning, baking, cashiering, serving and whatever-needs-done kind of mom who deserves a super Mother's Day. But first she'll bake the rest of us some special cookies.
M is for Moms in the kitchen

It is time to think about Mother’s Day, which is May 11.

We’re also thinking about mothers who deserve extra hugs and kisses and other tokens of affection for the hard work they put forth all year long for their families, and for the mothering they shower on us grateful diners.

Moms like Barbara Whitley at Crady’s, Maria Kovacs at Fat Jack’s, Kimberlee Masson at The Brentwood and Woofie McClary at Frank’s. There’s Ginger Dunn working behind the scenes at The Melting Pot, and the whole Cahill clan over at Nibils ought to give Ms. Margaret a group hug.

We must honor step-moms including Kelly Graham at SeaBlue, restaurant office moms like Wendy Zulanch at Litchfield Plantation, and all the servers, prep cooks and chefs who are hard-working moms.

And it’s time to remember mothers such as the dearly departed Mama Lucia of Villa Romana, who will dance the tarantella and roll gnocchi in our hearts forever.

On that sentimental note, all moms who dine at the Parson’s Table in Little River between 1 and 6 p.m. on Mothers Day will receive carnations and free desserts.

The Parson’s Table is beside U.S. 17 at McCorsely Avenue in Little River, and the number is 249-3702.

Thoroughbreds in Myrtle Beach is having a special menu, which you can see below. Note they have the date wrong on their menu; Mothers Day is May 11 this year, not May 10.

If you’d like your restaurant’s special Mother’s Day information to be published here, send it by e-mail to Becky@TheFoodSyndicate.com, or by fax to 293-1356.

Crady's Crackers are a savory cross between biscuits and crackers.

Mother’s Day and special Saturdays

Crady’s in Conway has special meals planned for Mothers Day and some Saturdays, and starting today they have new hours of operation: 11:30 to 2 p.m. Mondays-Fridays for lunch, and 5:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays for dinner.

Normally the restaurant is closed on Sundays, but on Mothers Day Crady’s will be open from noon to 3 p.m. for a special brunch. Dishes offered will include Eggs Benedict topped with crab meat, country ham and sweet peppers; Shrimp and Grits with sherry-laced cream; and Grandmomma Crady’s famous-recipe Salmon Croquettes.

Also, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month, Crady’s will be open for a monthly brunch with a special menu.

Of course at every brunch and at every meal, desserts prepared by Crady’s expert baker, Barbara Whitley, are offered. Lunch at Crady’s would not be lunch without Barbara’s Quiche of the Day, and at every meal her special homemade Crady’s Crackers are brought to tables as a complimentary amuse bouche.

If you’ve never had Crady’s Crackers, they are a savory treat that are a cross between a cracker and a biscuit. They’re Barbara’s version of the classic Southern Cheese Biscuits served at parties.

Crady's is at 332 Main. St. in Conway, and the number is 248-3321.

Grande Mothers Day

Click on the PDF below to see the Mothers Day menu for WaterScapes at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes.

Even if you don't plan on going there for Mothers Day, still take a look at the menu; it's very clever. Our favorites: The "Teenager" buffet line listed as "Our longest and most difficult buffet to navigate," and a salad section named "College" because it features "A whole lot of green."
